Era il 6 novembre 2002 quando il giocatore si spense dopo una lunga malattia: Signorini era da tempo affetto dalla SLA, sclerosi laterale amiotrofica, un morbo degenerativo che colpisce l'apparato nervoso. Aveva 42 anni.
Una lunga battaglia che Il Capitano, così come era chiamato dai tifosi rossoblù, ha perso non dopo però aver combutto fino all'ultimo contribueno a portare il male alla ribalta nazionale. Nella mente dei supporters genoani restano indimenticabili le stagioni dei primi anni '90 con Signorini protagonista e trascinatore di quegli anni. A lui è dedicato il campo di allenamento di Pegli.
Con la maglia del Genoa Signorini ha giocato dal 1988 al 1995, 7 stagioni intense. In totale per lui con la maglia del Grifone 207 presenze e 5 gol
